Strong Second Half Propels Rams over Sage

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team (18-7, 14-4) took a 69-50 Skyline victory today in senior guard Juanita Chappel's (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street Campus) final regular season home game over The Sage Colleges (10-13, 9-9).

After a slow start to the game, Sage led 21-11 with 5:36 left in the first before an 11-0 Farmingdale run would give them a 22-21 lead at the two minute mark. The Rams held a 26-23 at the half.

In the second, the Gators would go ahead 29-28 in the first two minutes and would tie it 33-33, but it would be all Farmingdale the rest of the way. With 8:39 left to play, the Rams went ahead by 11 and would not let the lead slip as they went on to the victory.

Junior forward Keona Jones (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street Campus) scored the games only double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while junior forward Dominique Cunningham (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague) totaled 12 points and freshman forward Lushanta Savadel (Bellport, N.Y./William Floyd) pulled down 12 rebounds. Sophomore forward Jalicia Connell (Westbury, N.Y./Hicksville) scored 11 points and sophomore guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y./Roosevelt) dished off seven assists along with her eight points.

For Sage, freshman forward Chelsea Martin (Davenport, N.Y./Jefferson Central) totaled 14 points and sophomore forward Kara Hackett (Peru, N.Y./Peru Central) finished with 10. Senior guard Elizabeth Donk (Phelps, N.Y./Midlakes) had seven assists.

The Rams earned the #3 seed and will host a first round Skyline game against #6 Purchase on Tuesday, February 22nd at 8:00 p.m.
