PURCHASE, N.Y. | Behind a 22-point, 22-rebound effort from senior forward
Alexandria Walbroehl (Mastic Beach, N.Y.), the Farmingdale State College women's basketball team earned a 72-64 Skyline Conference victory at Purchase College on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Rams improved to 13-11 overall and 11-8 in conference play, while the Panthers dropped to 11-14, 10-10.
FSC set the tone early, tallying the first 12 points of the game, including eight from Walbroehl. After a 3-pointer by Purchase, the Rams closed the first quarter with a pair of
Alana Henry (Manhasset Hills, N.Y.) free-throws and two baskets from junior forward
Samyah Allen (Queens Village, N.Y.) to take a commanding 18-3 lead into the second.
The Panthers opened the second quarter on a 12-2 run as they quickly cut their deficit to 20-14. FSC responded with two points apiece from
Shyann Parker (Floral Park, N.Y.), Walbroehl and Henry in a 6-2 spurt to regain a 10-point lead at 26-16.
The Rams led 32-25 at the halftime break and maintained the seven-point advantage, 50-43, heading into the fourth.

Emily Tsiforas (Manhasset Hills, N.Y.) followed by a 3-pointer by
Mia Simmons (Queens, N.Y.) gave Farmingdale State a 13-point edge, 58-45, with seven minutes remaining.Â
The Rams were ahead by 10, 68-58, before Purchase tallied six points to close within four with 42 seconds on the clock.Â
FSC knocked down four free-throws in the final seconds as they went on for the 72-64 victory.
Walbroehl hit 10 free-throws and grabbed 10 offensive rebounds en route to her 22-point and 22-rebound performance. Simmons finished with 19 points, five rebounds and three steals, while Parker recorded 10 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Sophomore guard
Brianna Amenta (Oceanside, N.Y.) produced five points, four rebounds, three assists and four steals in the victory.
Farmingdale State will next travel to play SUNY Old Westbury on Saturday, February 21st at noon. The Rams can clinch the fourth seed and a home playoff game with a win.
