Farmingdale State - 70, John Jay - 53
Grantham, Penn. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team held a 10 point halftime advantage and pulled away in the second half, defeating John Jay 70-53 in the consolation game of the Hampton Inn Tip-Off Classic hosted by Messiah College. The Rams picked up their first win of the season and now stand at 1-2 overall.
Farmingdale State was led by senior guard Kayla Koch (Kings Park, N.Y.) who shot 5-of-9 from the field for 15 points and added 10 rebounds. Koch was named to the Hampton Inn Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament Team. Sophomore forward Lushanta Savadel (Bellport, N.Y.) scored a team-high 16 points after shooting 70% from the floor.
The Rams held a 37-29 lead early in the second half, before an 11-0 run spanning the next 3:18 quickly extended the advantage to 48-29. Farmingdale State held a double-digit lead throughout the remainder of the game.
The Bloodhounds (0-2) were led by freshman forward Tyana Hale (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who scored a game-high 19 points and had seven rebounds and six steals.
The Rams next will host Baruch in a non-conference game on Tuesday, November 22nd at 6:00 p.m.
