Strong Second Half Leads Rams Past Staten Island

Staten Island, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team defeated non-conference opponent the College of Staten Island, 81-55, last night in Staten Island, N.Y. Head Coach Chris Mooney, in his 11th season at Farmingdale State College, earned his 200th career victory.

The Rams (13-5) outscored the Dolphins 49-22 in the second half. Leading 42-40 with 14:03 remaining, Farmingdale State went on a 9-2 run over the next 2:48 to open up a 51-44 advantage. Staten Island (5-14) would pull within four points, before the Rams put the game out of reach with a 20-0 run. Farmingdale held a 75-51 lead with under five minutes to play en route to an 81-55 non-conference victory. 

The Rams were led by junior guard Kayla Koch (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) who shot 6-for-9 from the field for a team-best 19 points. Sophomore guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y./Roosevelt) pitched in with 14 points and five assists, while senior guard Juanita Chappel (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street Campus) had 10 rebounds and five assists.

Senior guard Allie Shanahan (Staten Island, N.Y./St. John Villa) led all scorers with 26 points for the College of Staten Island and sophomore forward Katelyn Hepworth (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame) added 16 points and nine boards.

Farmingdale State next will travel to Mount Saint Vincent for a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday, February 2nd at 5:00 p.m.
