Blakney Scores 2,000th on Senior Night, Rams Remain

Blakney (Brookyln, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) became the first 2,000
point scorer in school history tonight, as she pulled down an
offensive rebound and went back up for a jumper to score her
2,001st point with 7:42 remaining to play. After a stoppage of the
game to celebrate her milestone, the Rams went on to defeat
Purchase 72-68 and remain undefeated at 23-0, 17-0 in the Skyline.
Purchase fell to 11-14, 8-10 in the conference.
Farmingdale State held the 33-30 lead at the break, but after a
quick score from Rams senior guard Juanita Chappel, Purchase went
on a 6-0 run to take their first lead of the game, 36-35, with
17:15 on the clock.
Blakney sank a free throw to tie the game at 36-36 and then hit a
jumper to give her team back the lead, 38-36. The lead would stay
within six points over the next ten minutes, before Farmingdale
used a nine-point spurt to increase the advantage to 71-56 with
3:12 on the board.
Purchase scored the next 12 points, with a bucket from each
player on the court, and trailed just 71-68 with 43 seconds left.
The Rams missed a jumper on the next posession, but a foul would
send senior guard Tiffara Steward (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka) to the
line at 12 seconds, where she made her first shot to secure the
victory for Farmingdale State.
For the Rams, Blakney finished with 31 points, 18 rebounds,
seven steals and two blocks. Chappel finished with 10 points and
six rebounds. Sophomore guard Shemique Hooks (Westbury,
N.Y./Westbury) added nine points and three steals.
Purchase was led by senior guard Jessie Domes (Glenwood,
N.Y./Springville) with 17 points, while junior guard Amanda Capone
(Southold, N.Y./Southold) chipped in 15 points and senior center
Liila Mack (Monticello, N.Y./Monticello) had 13 points and 11
rebounds.
Tonight's game was the final regular season home game for
Blakney, senior guard Kamaya Miller and Steward. Farmingdale State
will close out the regular season on Saturday, February 20th in
Newburgh, N.Y. against Skyline foe Mount Saint Mary College at 2:00
p.m. The Skyline Playoffs schedule will be announced Sunday night.
