Blakney Grabs School Record 26 Rebounds on Pink Zone Night

Farmingdale State - 71, Old Westbury - 65

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team (20-0, 14-0 Skyline) trailed by three at the half, but was able to hold off SUNY rival Old Westbury (11-11, 6-9) in the second to take the 71-65 victory in tonight's Pink Zone Game in Farmingdale, N.Y. Rams senior guard Kimberly Blakney (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) grabbed a school record 26 rebounds, while also scoring 24 points, as she broke Sharon Billips' record of 20 rebounds, set back on March 2nd, 2005.

The Panthers led 30-27 at the break and scored the first eight points to push the lead up to 11, before a 15-4 Farmingdale run, highlighted by a layup from sophomore guard Shemique Hooks (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury), gave the Rams a one-point lead, 44-43 with 12:50 left on the clock. Farmingdale pushed the lead to six, before freshman guard Krystina Agard (Queens, N.Y./August Martin) sank four free throws and freshman forward Abigail Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y./Frederick Douglas Academy) connected on a layup to tie the score at 49-49.

The Rams surged ahead to a 14-point advantage with a 19-4 run for a 68-54 lead with 4:05 remaining and would hold on for the conference win to increase their undefeated streak to 20 games.

Blakney's 24 points led the team, while senior guard Juanita Chappel (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street Campus) scored 10 points and senior guard Kamaya Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) scored eight points, eight rebounds and game-highs of six steals and three blocks.

Old Westbury was led by senior guard Carlie Moore (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic) with 24 points, Agard with 21 points, and senior guard Avery Josey (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) finished with 18 rebounds and 10 points.

The Pink Zone Night raised over $800 towards the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund and saw approximately 300 fans in tonight's Skyline Basketball double-header. Thanks to everyone for coming out and supporting breast cancer awareness. Go Rams!
