Rams Take Season Opener over Yeshiva

Farmingdale State - 68, Yeshiva University - 37

New York, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team opened the 2010-11 season with a win over Skyline opponent Yeshiva University (0-2) on Wednesday night in a game played at Baruch College. The Rams posted the 68-37 victory to improve to 1-0, 1-0 in conference.

Farmingdale led 38-20 after the first half, before holding the Maccabees to just 17 second half points. Junior guard Shemique Hooks (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury) led with a team-high 11 points, while junior guard Kayla Koch (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) finished with 19 points. Junior forward Dominique Cunningham (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague) totaled nine points, nine rebounds and four steals for the night.

Team highlights included Farmingdale State junior forward Natasha Smalls (Harlem, N.Y./St. Michael Academy) tying a school record with six blocked shots, while Yeshiva shot an impressive 81-percent from the free throw line.

The Rams will now travel to Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa. for the Days Inn Tip-Off Tournament. Farmingdale will face CCNY on Saturday, November 20th at 8:00 p.m., followed by either the Consolation or Championship game on Sunday, November 21st at 2:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m.
