Box Score Rams Remain Perfect with Win over NYU-Poly
Farmingdale State - 77, NYU-Poly - 50
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's
basketball team improved to 9-0 on the season, 4-0 in the Skyline
Conference after this evenings 77-50 win over NYU-Poly. The
Fighting Blue Jays now stand at 3-4 overall, 1-2 in conference
play.
The Rams opened the game on an 11-0 run, holding NYU-Poly
scoreless for the first 6:22, until sophomore forward Kristen
Leitheuser (Millbrook, N.Y.) ended the drought with a
three-pointer. Farmingdale's defense held the Fighting Blue Jays to
only eight first half points and went into halftime with a 33-8
advantage.
NYU-Poly closed the deficit to 18 points on a layup and
free-throw by sophomore forward Margaux Pickell (Howell, N.J.) with
12:56 remaining. A 26-6 run spanning the next five minutes put the
Rams ahead 71-33 and secured the win for Farmingdale.
Senior guard Kimberly Blakney (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker)
led the Rams with a game-high 27 points, 11 rebounds, six steals
and two blocked shots. Freshman guard Jeanette Zubizarreta (Bay
Shore, N.Y./Calhoun) scored 15 points shooting 6-for-9 from the
floor, including 3-for-5 from three-point range.
Pickell led NYU-Poly with 17 points and 14 rebounds, while
Leitheuser pitched in with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Farmingdale State will host Skyline opponent Bard on Saturday,
January 9th at 4:00 p.m. The game will be played off-campus at
Nassau Community College.
