FSC Athletics Update - January 20


FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Skyline Conference and New Jersey Athletic Conference released their latest weekly reports Monday night, and Farmingdale State College junior men's basketball forward Kentrell Evans (Brooklyn, N.Y.) received honorable mention praise from both the Skyline and the Met Basketball Writers Association (link) following standout performances in the Rams' two wins.

Men's Basketball (13-2, 6-0 Skyline) | Skyline Report

Farmingdale State ran its winning streak to seven games after notching road victories Wednesday at Maritime (82-76) and Saturday at Manhattanville (76-74) to remain atop the Skyline Conference's Black Division standings.

Evans averaged 19.0 points and 13.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 81 percent from the field on the week. He registered 17 points and 12 boards midweek at the Privateers, before logging his fifth straight double-double with 21 points and 14 caroms at Manhattanville.

FSC returns home Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. tip-off against Purchase, before traveling Saturday night for an 8:30 match-up at Gold Division-unbeaten Yeshiva.

Farmingdale State competed Saturday at the Coast Guard Academy Winter Invite No. 1, where four All-Atlantic Regional qualifying marks were set by FSC student-athletes. 

Junior thrower Adonias Mercado (Hillsdale, N.Y.) reached the qualifying standard in the shot put (15.20 meters) and weight throw (17.42m), while senior Daniel Bamfo (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and freshman Christian Destine (Rosedale, N.Y.) both qualified with triple jump marks of 13.82m and 13.51m, respectively.

The Rams return to Connecticut for competition on Saturday, as they will take part in the William Sutherland Invitational at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven.

Women's Basketball (8-8, 6-5 Skyline) | Skyline Report

After dropping weeknight Skyline games to St. Joseph's-Long Island and Sarah Lawrence, Farmingdale State got back in the win column Saturday with a 59-47 victory over Mount Saint Vincent. Sophomore Emily Tsiforas (Manhasset Hills, N.Y.) led all scorers against the Dolphins with 19 points, while adding seven rebounds.

The Rams round out their three-game homestand Wednesday with a 6 p.m. start against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, before traveling Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip-off at Skyline-unbeaten Manhattanville.
