FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | With the start of the spring semester underway, the Farmingdale State College winter sports teams are deep into conference play, while the spring sports programs begin their preparations this week for their upcoming seasons.

Men's Basketball (14-3, 7-1 Skyline) | Skyline Report

Farmingdale State earned an 83-61 Skyline Conference victory at home Tuesday night versus Purchase, before dropping a Saturday night decision at conference-unbeaten Yeshiva. Junior guard Derek Reed (Shinnecock, N.Y.) netted a career-high 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting in the win against the Panthers.

The Rams have a pair of conference games this week, including Wednesday's 7 p.m. home tip-off versus Mount Saint Mary and Saturday's noontime match-up at Mount Saint Vincent.

Women's Basketball (9-9, 7-6 Skyline) | Skyline Report

FSC split its pair of conference tilts, capturing a 62-57 home victory on Wednesday versus St. Joseph's-Brooklyn before falling at Skyline-undefeated Manhattanville on Saturday. In the midweek triumph against the Bears, junior guard Mia Simmons (Queens, N.Y.) shot 6-of-12 from the field on her way to a team-high 14 points. 

The Rams travel to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy for a 5 p.m. start on Wednesday night, before playing host to defending Skyline champion Mount Saint Mary, Saturday afternoon at 1.

Indoor Track and Field | NJAC Men's Report | NJAC Women's Report

Saturday saw the Rams' track and field teams compete at the William Sutherland Invitational in New Haven, Connecticut. Freshman men's multi-event specialist Ethan Zacarolli (Hillsdale, N.Y.) was a double winner in the 55 meter hurdles (7.88 seconds) and high jump (1.88 meters), while classmate Amelia Vitale (Hauppauge, N.Y.) placed fifth in the women's 400 meter dash. 

Following a week off from competition, FSC will return to the track on Friday, February 6, at the Coast Guard Academy's Winter Invite No. 2.

Season-opening dates for spring sports

With the second semester underway, Farmingdale State's spring sports programs are beginning their practice sessions in preparation for their competition seasons. The following are the Rams' season opener dates:

Golf

First home match: March 23, FSC Glen Oaks Invitational (with Rensselaer, NYU and SUNY-Delhi)

First home game: February 28, vs. Western Connecticut

Softball

First game: March 16, McDaniel (Clermont, Fla.)
