SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. | Farmingdale State men's tennis sophomore Zakaria Ahmed (Manhasset, N.Y.) and freshman Devan Melandro (Syosset, N.Y.) competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Northeast Regional Tournament on Friday, October 3rd, hosted by Skidmore College. The pair became the first student-athletes in program history to represent the Rams at the prestigious regional championship event, which features some of the top Division III competitors in the Nation.

In singles play, Ahmed fell in his opening-round main draw to Harrison Maitland-Carte of TCNJ, 6-4, 6-0, before rebounding with an 8-6 victory over St. Lawrence's Ryan Tingley in the consolation match. Melandro battled to three-sets against Ithaca's Carlos Hernandez, narrowly dropping the match 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7), before withdrawing from consolation play due to an injury.

In doubles competition, Ahmed and Melandro teamed up in the main draw, falling 8-2 to RIT's Alec Turcotte and Evan Ly. The pair bounced back in the consolation round, earning an 8-2 victory over Yeshiva's Matan Kamhi and Jacob Feit.
