FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's and women's tennis teams played host to non-conference opponent Pratt Institute on Saturday. The men earned a 5-2 victory, while the women fell, 7-0.
The FSC men (1-0) swept all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Senior Kwaku Agyeman (Middletown, N.Y.) and sophomore Henri Pothier (Montgomery, N.Y.) opened with a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, while seniors Emil Sabovic (Bohemia, N.Y.) and Myles Freelin (Islip, N.Y.) recorded a 6-2 win in the second position. Freshman Brandon Simonetti (Islip, N.Y.) and junior Luke Mun (Carle Place, N.Y.) completed the sweep with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Farmingdale State picked up four singles victories to secure the 5-2 win. Senior Danial Zindani (Walden, N.Y.) cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 2, while sophomore Broc Brown (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) earned a 6-3, 6-1 win in the third position. Freshman Victor Bories (6-1, 6-1) and freshman Lincoln Capolino (6-4, 6-2) added victories at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively. At No. 1, junior Michael Lerman (Massapequa, N.Y.) battled Pratt's Peter Burnham in a three-set match before falling 10-8 in the deciding super tiebreaker.
On the women's side, Pratt earned the doubles point after winning two of the three matches. Sophomore Kaelin Burnett (East Islip, N.Y.) and freshman Emma Johannsen (Verplanck, N.Y.) picked up the Rams' lone doubles victory, earning a 6-4 win at the No. 2 position.
The Cannoneers went on to sweep singles play, with senior Gabriella Loria (Levittown, N.Y.) putting up the closest score for FSC at No. 3 before falling, 6-4, 6-3.
The men's team will next compete at the ITA Regional Championship in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., from Thursday, September 24th through Sunday, September 27th. The Farmingdale State women will next host Western Connecticut State on Monday, September 21st at 4:30 p.m.
