RESULTS
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's golf team won the Skyline Conference Championship for the fifth consecutive time and 16th time in program history on Monday at Bethpage State Park's Red Course. FSC fired a tournament-low round of 283 in today's final round and finished with a two-day total of 582, 48 strokes ahead of runner-up Mount Saint Mary (630).
The Rams round of 283 on Monday marked a new Skyline Championship record. The previous record of 289 was held by the Farmingdale State squad at the 2013 Championship.
In addition, FSC became the first program in Skyline history to sweep the major awards and earn all five First Team All-Conference spots.
Farmingdale State sophomore
CJ Merritt (Plainview, N.Y.) claimed medalist and Player of the Year honors for the second straight season. He followed his 73 (+3) in round one with an even score of 70 on Monday for a total of 143. Merritt recorded three birdies on the back nine and finished three strokes ahead of teammatesÂ
Mackenzie Kim (East Quogue, N.Y.) and
Brad Castaldy (Dix Hills, N.Y.), who had matching scores (75-71) in both rounds and were six-over par (146).
Sophomore
Padruig Douglas (Northport, N.Y.) and freshman
Rishi Talwar (East Farmingdale, N.Y.) produced matching scores as well (76-71-147), each firing a 71 (+1) on Monday.
Talwar registered an even front nine before tallying a pair of birdies on the back half. He claimed Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year honors, finishing tied for fourth place, and was seven strokes ahead of the next freshman, Ruslan Makarenko of Mount Saint Mary.
Farmingdale State has earned the Skyline's automatic bid into the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship at Midvale Country Club in Penfield, New York from May 20-23. The Rams will continue their fall season with the 36-hole Adelphi Invitational on Thursday, October 10th.
