Klarman Grand Slam Leads Rams to DH Split with Staten Island

Staten Island, N.Y. - In a non-conference softball doubleheader, Farmingdale State dropped the first game to The College of Staten Island but responded with a 9-6 victory highlighted by an Andrea Klarman (Medford, N.Y.) grand slam in game two. The Rams now stand at 8-6 on the year, while the Dolphins are 10-4.

After dropping the first game 13-3, Farmingdale State started game two with a leadoff triple to right field by junior catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.). In FSC's next at-bat, Klarman hit an RBI single to put the Rams ahead 1-0.

Staten Island responded with three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead.

In the top of the third, sophomore second baseman Ally Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) led off with a walk and later scored on an Anderson RBI single up the middle.

Trailing 3-2 in the sixth, the Rams tied the game on a Breanna Susa (Bay Shore, N.Y.) RBI single down the left field line which scored Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.). After a Tori Tedeschi (Levittown, N.Y.) single loaded the bases, a Cara Camerada (East Rockaway, N.Y.) RBI fielders choice and a Mancini RBI bunt single gave Farmingdale State a 5-3 lead. With two outs, Klarman hit a grand slam to right center to put the Rams on top by six, 9-3.

The Dolphins scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth but Farmingdale State held on for the 9-6 game two victory.

Klarman was 2-for-4 at the plate with 5 RBI and a run scored, while also earning the win after allowing six runs in six innings pitched. Anderson was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, while Mongiello had two hits and scored a run. Susa was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI in the victory.

Staten Island was led by junior third baseman Christina Tufano (Staten Island, N.Y.) who was 3-for-4 at the plate with 3 RBI and two runs scored. In the doubleheader, Tufano had six hits in seven at-bats and totaled 8 RBI.

The Rams next will host Rutgers-Newark in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, April 9th at 4:00 p.m.
