NEW HAVEN, Conn. | The Farmingdale State College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Albertus Magnus on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons took the opener, 8-3, before the Rams responded with a 13-7 victory in game two. The Rams now stand at 13-11 overall, while Albertus Magnus moves to 18-13 on the season.
In game one, Albertus Magnus scored three runs in the first inning before the Rams answered with three runs in the top of the second to tie the contest. Freshman first baseman Emily Lopez (Miller Place, N.Y.) singled and later scored on a fielder's choice, while sophomore shortstop Natalie McMichael (Smithtown, N.Y.) and freshman right fielder Isabella Marchini (Hicksville, N.Y.) also crossed the plate on RBI singles from junior catcher Madison Sturtz (East Islip, N.Y.) and senior pitcher Madison DeMaio (Elmont, N.Y.) to even the score at 3-3.
The Falcons regained the lead with two runs in the third inning and added three more in the sixth, while holding the Rams off the board, as they went on for the 8-3 victory.
Lopez led the Rams at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. McMichael finished with a hit, RBI, and run scored, while DeMaio had two hits and an RBI in the contest.
In game two, Farmingdale State use a nine-run fifth inning en route to the 13-7 win.
The Rams scored two runs in the second inning on an fielder's choice by McMichael and a sacrifice bunt from freshman second baseman Sabrina Lee (Westbury, N.Y.). They added two more in the third inning as Marchini delivered a two-run single to give FSC a 4-2 advantage.
Albertus Magnus took a 5-4 lead after a three-run home run in the fourth inning, but the Rams answered with nine runs in the fifth to take control of the game. Junior third baseman Bailey Hammock (Port Jervis, N.Y.) highlighted the inning with a three-run triple, while Lopez, junior center fielder Ashley Toro (Bay Shore, N.Y.), McMichael, sophomore left fielder Nikole Galgano (Levittown, N.Y.), Sturtz and senior designated player Samantha Stolfi (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.)Â each drove in a run during the rally.
The Falcons cut the gap to six with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth, but FSC freshman pitcher Kiara Kegel (Massapequa, N.Y.) did not allow a hit over the final two innings to secure the win.
Lopez led the Rams offense, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Hammock finished 2-for-3 with three RBI's and two runs scored, while McMichael added a hit and two RBI's. Marchini recorded two RBI's, and Toro scored twice and drove in a run.
Farmingdale State will next host Mount Saint Mary for a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 18th beginning at 12:00 p.m.
