Riverhead, N.Y. - Senior Masa Maruyama (Yamanashi,
Japan/Sundai) shot a school record 69 on the Links at Cherry Creek
in Manhattan College's Jasper Classic this afternoon.
Farmingdale State captured the team title with a score of 303,
finishing nine shots ahead of host school Manhattan College.
Maruyama shot an even par 36 on the front nine and birdied the
final five holes for his four-under par round of 69. Maruyama
finished four strokes ahead of runner-up Thomas Romano from
Manhattan. Senior Matt Livolsi (Stewart Manor, N.Y./Sewanhaka)
posted a 77 for Farmingdale, while senior Jim McLaughlin
(Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) shot 78, despite starting four over par
through the first four holes. Senior Andrew Schwartz (Commack,
N.Y./Commack) and sophomore Chris Arnold (Hauppauge, N.Y/Hauppauge)
each carded a 79. St. Joseph's Chris Manzello finished in
third place individually with a round of 75.
Farmingdale State finished ahead of three Division I schools
(Manhattan, St. Peter's and Hofstra). St. Peter's
College finished in third place with a team total of 314.
The Rams next will travel to Cherry Valley Golf Club in Garden
City, N.Y. for the Tom Pecora Invitational on Monday, April
26th.
