Box Score 2 Rams Sweep Staten Island with Big Wins

Staten Island, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team swept
the College of Staten Island on Thursday afternoon, with wins of
5-0 and 17-2, in a non-conference doubleheader. Sophomore pitcher
Hope Zino
(Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) and junior pitcher Heather
Buckshaw (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) picked up their 10th and
7th wins, respectively, as the Rams improved to 23-9 overall.
Game One
Sophomore Rebecca
Richman doubled down the leftfield line and junior shortstop Nicole
Farber (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) singled to left for her first
RBI of the day to make it 1-0. Sophomore Aubrey Walker
(West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) doubled to right to score Farber
for the 2-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, the Rams added another run on a sacrifice
fly by freshman third baseman Kristen Flint
(Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) for the 3-0 lead. The fifth inning
called for another run scoring freshman Maressa
Mistretta from second base on a Farber single to centerfield
for a 4-0 advantage.
In the seventh, Richman homered for the final run of the game
and the Rams would allow a hit in the bottom of the inning but a
flyout to center, lineout to second and pop-up to short would
secure the 5-0 victory. Zino struck out eight batters and allowed
just four hits to improve to 10-4 overall.
Game Two
In game two, the Rams run-ruled the Dolphins with a 17-2 victory
over five innings of work. Buckshaw allowed seven hits and struck
out three with no walks to improve to 7-4 overall this year.
Farmingdale started the game with five runs in both the first
and second innings for a 10-0 cushion, highlighted by a two-run
homer by freshman third baseman Elizabeth
Escobar in the first, and six hits in the second.
In the fourth, the Rams saw a three-run homer from Richman, her
second of the day and fifth of the season, and then a three-run
homer by Walker, her 10th of the season, to make it 17-1. Staten
Island scored one run in the fifth but could not catch up as
Farmingdale took the 17-2 win.
Junior shortstop Nicole Farber (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) went
6-for-6 with two walks and two stolen bases on the day, putting her
name in the NCAA record books for consecutive hits for the second
time this season.
Walker finished the day 4-for-8 with seven RBI's. Keenan
finished 5-of-8 with 2 RBI's.
