Baseball Earns Non-Conference Win Over Rutgers-Camden

Farmingdale State - 3, Rutgers-Camden - 2
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College baseball team hosted non-conference opponent Rutgers-Camden for a single nine-inning game on Tuesday afternoon and earned a 3-2 victory. With the win, the Rams improved to 7-9 overall, while the Scarlet Raptors fell to 14-11.

Farmingdale State opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Junior second baseman Ryan Wasserman (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) led off with a single and later scored when senior first baseman Dom LaFroscia (Sayville, N.Y.) lined an RBI single to center field for the 1-0 lead.

The Rams added to their advantage in the fifth inning when senior left fielder Mike Kocovic (Mahopac, N.Y.) tripled down the right field line and later scored on an RBI groundout by senior right fielder Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) to make it 2-0.

Farmingdale State pushed across their third run in the seventh inning when Wasserman singled to left before Heyder tripled down the right field line to extend the Rams' lead to 3-0.

Rutgers-Camden threatened in the eighth inning, scoring twice on a pair of sacrifice flies to trim the deficit to 3-2. Farmingdale State senior pitcher Derek Watts (Baldwin, N.Y.) recorded the final six outs, including a 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning, to secure the 3-2 win and earn his first save of the season.

Junior Thomas O'Neill (Farmingdale, N.Y.) started on the mound for FSC and tossed 2.1 scoreless innings. Senior TJ Cox (Mineola, N.Y.) earned the win after allowing just three hits over 4.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

Offensively, Wasserman led the Rams with two hits, a walk and two runs scored, while Heyder finished with a triple and two RBI's. Junior third baseman Jimmy Manzella (Baldwin, N.Y.) reached base three times on a hit and two walks and Kocovic produced a triple and one run scored.

The Rams will next return to Skyline Conference action when they travel to Mount Saint Mary College for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 11th at noon.
