CORNWALL, N.Y. | Competing for the second time in 48 hours, the Farmingdale State College outdoor track and field teams took part in Sunday's MSMC Knight Invitational, as six Rams reached All-Atlantic Regional qualifying standards with their performances.
Sophomore
Victoria DeGraw (Kerhonkson, N.Y.) led the FSC women's contingent, as she threw to a winning and regional qualifying mark of 38.23 meters in the discus. Freshman
Amelia Vitale (Hauppauge, N.Y.) won the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.98, while classmate
Ciara Cromie (Levittown, N.Y.) broke the tape with a winning time of 2:34.35 in the 800 meter run. Senior
Olivia Finnegan (Massapequa, N.Y.) won a pair of events, crossing the finish line in a time of 18.03 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles, while also registering a mark of 10.17m in the triple jump.Â
Men's throwers
Adonias Mercado (Jr.; Hillsdale, N.Y.) and
Xavier Myers (So.; West Babylon, N.Y.) finished first and second, respectively, in the discus throw, with both student-athletes moving into the top 30 on the Division III leaderboard in the process. Mercado's winning throw of 50.15m now sits at No. 13 nationally, while Myers's 48.20m toss is good for the No. 29 position.
Mercado's winning distance of 15.75m in the shot put was good for first place, as was senior
Daniel Bamfo's (Lake Grove, N.Y.) regional qualifying leap of 13.83 meters in the triple jump. Sophomores
John Juste (Uniondale, N.Y.) and
Aaron Matos (East Meadow, N.Y.) both cleared a regional qualifying height of 1.93m in the high jump, with Juste winning the event after clearing the standard on his first leap at the height.
Farmingdale State is next in action on Thursday, April 23, when the teams travel to Union, N.J., to compete in the Kean University Cougars Showcase.
