NEW LONDON, Conn. | Junior
Adonias Mercado (Hillsdale, N.Y.) broke the Farmingdale State College men's indoor track and field shot put record Friday night, as his winning mark of 16.57 meters (54 feet, 4.25 inches) paced the Rams at the Coast Guard Academy Invitational.
FSC's men's team placed second in the seven-team field with a total of 120 points, while the Rams' women's squad finished fifth with their 38-point showing.
Mercado's shot put mark shattered the previous Farmingdale State indoor record of 15.95m (52-4), which was set in 1974 during the school's junior college era by Karl Johnson. Additionally, Mercado's toss ranks No. 17 nationally on the latest NCAA Division III performance list. The junior rounded out his performance at the meet by placing third in the weight throw with an All-Atlantic Championship qualifying mark of 15.94m (52-3.75).

Jaden Cesar (Queens, N.Y.) won the triple jump (14.13m; 46-4.25) and long jump (6.60m; 21-8), respectively. Senior sprinter
Dontay Taylor (Layou, St. Vincent and the Grenadines) broke the tape in the 400 meter dash with a winning time of 53.51, while junior
Nathaniel White (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) placed first in the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.30.Â
In the women's competition, sophomore thrower
Victoria DeGraw (Kerhonkson, N.Y.) placed second in the weight throw with her mark of 12.53m (41-1.5), setting a personal record and improving her fifth-place standing on Farmingdale State's all-time performance list in the process. Junior
Ashley Toro (Islip, N.Y.) garnered third-place points in the shot put with a toss of 10.38 (34-0.75), finishing just ahead of DeGraw (10.12m; 33-2.5). Junior
Mishell Delgado (Bronx, N.Y.) finished third with a leap of 2.55m (8-4.25) in the pole vault, while the Rams' 4x200 meter relay team of freshmen
Emily Graziano (East Islip, N.Y.) and
Amelia Vitale (Hauppauge, N.Y.), senior
Olivia Finnegan (Massapequa, N.Y.) and junior
Ifeoluwa Longe (Roosevelt, N.Y.) clocked a third-place time of 1:54.05.
Friday's meet served as the final competition before Farmingdale State competes in the 2026 New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will take place February 21-22 in Philadelphia at the University of Pennsylvania.
