FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Farmingdale State men's track & field junior thrower Adonias Mercado (Hillsdale, N.Y.) has been selected as the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Field Athlete of the Year. Mercado becomes the first major award winner in the NJAC in program history for the Rams.
Mercado earned First Team All-Conference honors in both throwing events after capturing the individual titles in the shot put and weight throw at the Championship last week.
In the shot put, Mercado led the field with a winning mark of 16.30 meters (53' 5.75") to secure the conference title and first team recognition.
He claimed his second victory of the competition in the weight throw, winning with a mark of 16.81 meters (55' 2").
Mercado and the Rams will compete at the All-Atlantic Region Championships on Friday and Saturday, March 6-7 at The Armory in New York, N.Y.
