FSC Athletics Update - February 24

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | In this week's FSC Athletics Update, the Farmingdale State College basketball and indoor track and field teams are competing this week in their respective conference championships, while both Rams lacrosse teams are in action this weekend.

Men's Basketball (22-3, 15-1 Skyline) | Skyline Conference Men's Basketball Championship Central

Farmingdale State wrapped up regular-season play with a pair of home victories, defeating the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday, 92-78, before cruising past Maritime on Saturday, 94-56. As a result, FSC finished the regular season atop the Skyline's Black Division, as well as the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Regional Rankings, and will enter this week's eight-team conference championship as the No. 2 seed.

The Rams will play host to seventh-seeded St. Joseph's University-Long Island in the quarterfinal round of the 2026 Skyline Conference Men's Basketball Championship, Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Should Farmingdale State advance, it would host a semifinal game on Friday at a time to be determined, while the championship final is slated for Sunday afternoon at the highest remaining seed. All up-to-date information on the tournament can be found at the Skyline's Championship Central site.

Women's Basketball (14-11, 12-8 Skyline) | Skyline Conference Women's Basketball Championship Central

FSC scored two road wins to round out its regular season slate, capturing a 72-64 decision Wednesday at Purchase before downing Old Westbury on Saturday, 74-59, to earn the Skyline's No. 4 seed to this week's six-team conference championship.

As part of a doubleheader with the men's program, the Rams will welcome fifth-seeded St. Joseph's-Long Island for a first-round game in the 2026 Skyline Conference Women's Basketball Championship on Wednesday night at 5. The winner of that contest advances to Friday's 5 p.m. semifinal at top-seeded Manhattanville University, while the championship final will take place Sunday at the highest remaining seed. All up-to-date information on the tournament can be found at the Skyline's Championship Central site.

Indoor Track and Field

Before the snow hit the Northeast part of the country, Farmingdale State took part in the first day of the 2026 New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday night in Philadelphia. The Rams' men's team sits in fourth place (21 points) in the competition behind a winning effort in the shot put from junior Adonias Mercado (Hillsdale, N.Y.), while the women's side is in sixth place (10 points).

The second and final day of the competition will take place from the University of Pennsylvania's Ott Center on Friday afternoon, with the first event scheduled to commence at 3:30.

Men's Lacrosse (2-0) | Skyline Weekly Report

FSC continued its winning ways to start the season on Wednesday, as it earned a 9-8 victory at home against NCAA Division II institution, the University of Bridgeport.

The Rams defense registered 18 caused turnovers against the Purple Knights, including a career-high-tying five by junior long-stick midfielder Sean Lawson (Mattituck, N.Y.). He added seven ground balls and one assist on the afternoon, and was cited on the Skyline's honorable mention listing in its weekly report on Monday afternoon. Additionally, senior midfielder Connor Murtha (Moriches, N.Y.) garnered honorable mention kudos after bagging his first career hat trick versus UB.

This coming Wednesday's scheduled home game versus SUNY New Paltz has been canceled due to the recent snowfall. Farmingdale State will play its first road game of the season on Saturday, when it travels to Oneonta, N.Y., for a noontime start at Hartwick College.

Women's Lacrosse

Farmingdale State's originally scheduled season opener on Wednesday at Vassar was postponed to March 4 at 6 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., due to the inclement weather. Instead, the Rams' will kick off their 2026 slate at home Saturday at noon when they play host to Western Connecticut.
