Women's Basketball Defeated By Merchant Marine

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy 61, Farmingdale State 47
KINGS POINT, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's basketball team traveled Wednesday night to Skyline Conference foe U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, dropping a 61-47 decision to the Mariners.

USMMA (15-4, 12-2) scored the first eight points of the game, before junior guard Mia Simmons (Queens, N.Y.) converted a layup 3:09 into play for the Rams (9-10, 7-7 Skyline). Following a jumper from sophomore forward Emily Tsiforas (Manhasset Hills, N.Y.) 55 seconds later, the Mariners closed out the first quarter with three-straight baskets to extend their advantage to 16-4. The hosts increased their lead to 30-8 midway through the second quarter, before FSC freshman Alana Henry (Amityville, N.Y.) and senior point guard Shyann Parker (Floral Park, N.Y.) scored four points apiece before the halftime break.

Simmons added five points within the first 2:27 of the second half to cut the Rams' deficit to 37-25, but the visitors could get no closer after USMMA responded with a seven-point spread.

Parker (5-of-8 FG, four rebounds, three assists) and Simmons scored 12 points apiece for FSC, while freshman guard Brianna Amenta (Oceanside, N.Y.) chipped in with seven points. Henry (team-high six rebounds) and Tsiforas (two blocked shots) added six points apiece for the Rams.

Farmingdale State returns home for Skyline Conference play on Saturday afternoon, when it plays host to defending champion Mount Saint Mary College at 1.
