PENFIELD, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's golf team opened play at the 2025 NCAA Division III Championship on Tuesday at Cobblestone Creek Country Club. The Rams finished with a team total of 313 (+25) on day one and are tied for 31st place.Â
Following Wednesday's second round, the field will be cut to the top-18 teams and top six individuals not on one of those advancing teams. The Rams have made the cut as a team just twice before (2010 & 2024), and have had two individuals compete in all four rounds (
Brad Castaldy - 2022 & Masanao Maruyama - 2009).
Senior
Mackenzie Kim (East Quogue, N.Y.) led the way for FSC with a 74 (+2). He recorded an even front nine, including three birdies, and is tied for 31st individually out of 225 competitors.
Senior
Brad Castaldy (Dix Hills, N.Y.) registered a five-over-par 77 for Farmingdale State. He produced birdies on holes 11, 17 and 18 as he tallied an even back nine.
Junior
James Quinlan (Poughquag, N.Y.) and sophomore
Padruig Douglas (Northport, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for the Rams with an 80 (+8) and 82 (+10), respectively. Junior
CJ Merritt (Plainview, N.Y.) was fifth on FSC with an 88 (+16).
Fifth-ranked Illinois-Wesleyan is the current leader, registering a team total of 290 (+2). John Carroll and Carleton are tied for second with a 294 (+6) in round one.
Nine student-athletes recorded rounds under par, with Edward Croffen of Lynchburg and Will Karkoc of Bethel (MN) tied for the lead with rounds of 68 (-4).
The Rams will play the second round of the NCAA Championship at Midvale Country Club in Penfield. Due to the weather forecast, round two will be a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. You can follow the Championship with
