Division III Week Student-Athlete Spotlight: Jevon Santos

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | In celebration of NCAA Division III Week (April 7-13), the Farmingdale State College athletics department will be highlighting the experiences, perspectives and passion of our student-athletes.

Division III Week is a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community.

In order to highlight the diverse array of student-athletes who proudly represent Farmingdale State athletics, we will feature a selection of individuals throughout the week. You will get to know them better as they share their responses to five questions about what it means to be a Division III athlete at FSC.

Our next student-athlete spotlight is senior men's basketball point guard, Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.).

Jevon will go down as one of the best point guards in team and Skyline Conference history. The Skyline's Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection this past winter, his 481 career assists are the school record, and are 162 above the next-closest mark (Damien Santana, 2005-09; 319). A Sport Management major, Jevon started a school-record 112 games over his illustrious four-year career, and swiped 210 steals (No. 3 at Farmingdale State). His 937 points over his 113 games played rank No. 10 on the Rams' all-time scoring list.

Q&A

What has made your Division III student-athlete experience so great/special?

My Division lll student-athlete experience has been special, because of the relationships that I have made with my teammates, staff and fellow student-athletes. Also, because of how understanding most professors were dealing with student-athletes' busy schedules, and accommodating us and finding ways to ensure we got everything we needed out of the courses.

What's your favorite Division III memory at Farmingdale State?

My favorite memory at Farmingdale State was winning the Skyline Conference Championship for the second time (in 2024), and winning a first-round NCAA Championship game (vs. Stevens). That whole trip was a fun experience, because of the level of basketball we were playing that whole season, as well as knowing that we were a top team in the country that season.

Please give an example from your time here when you/your teammates got involved in a community engagement effort; describe the experience, and how the sense of accomplishment felt.

Every year, our team hosts a CYO day before one of our games. All of the kids go through basketball drills for an hour, and it made me feel good to give back and give advice to younger athletes. That used to be me – going to camps, listening to older athletes, and enjoying the interactions.

Give an example of a moment when you felt like a leader within your team; explain what led to that moment, and how you executed your leadership traits.

My senior year, I felt like a leader throughout the whole season. The year before I was a co-captain, so I had help with leadership, but after the other two co-captains graduated, I was the only one left. Early on this season, we had to face a lot of adversity and I had to make sure our team stayed together and understood that we were going to be fine.

Division III affords student-athletes the opportunity to balance many initiatives at once (e.g., academics, athletics, job/family, etc.). How has this balance allowed you to be successful both at FSC and in life during your time here.

This balance has allowed me to be successful, because I learned how to manage my time. The main thing was learning how to use my time the right way; I stopped procrastinating as much as I used to, and had to learn how to plan out my days for all of my classes and team commitments.
