FARMINGDALE, N.Y. |Â The Farmingdale State men's basketball team saw its 2024-25 season come to an end on Sunday, as the top-seeded Rams (18-10) fell to third-seeded Yeshiva University (18-10), 81-78, in the Skyline Conference Championship Final. Junior guard Zevi Samet (Monsey, N.Y.) knocked down the eventual game-winning 3-pointer with 16 seconds on the clock to put the Maccabees in front by one. Yeshiva secured the win with a pair of free-throws in the final seconds as they earned the 81-78 victory and Skyline title.
The Maccabees have earned the Conference's automatic bid into the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship, which will take place next weekend.
Samet was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Skyline Conference Championship and produced 37 points on 13-of-23 shooting.
Farmingdale State held a 30-28 advantage with 7:24 to play in the first half and outscored Yeshiva, 19-7, as they took a 49-35 lead into the break.
Samet opened the second half with a 3-pointer to quickly cut the deficit to 11, but Farmingdale State responded and increased their lead to 16, 60-44, with 15 minutes to play.Â
Yeshiva went on an 8-2 run over the next three minutes and closed to within seven at 62-55.
With 3:58 remaining, a YU layup and five points by Samet pulled them to within one, 77-76.
The Rams were fouled with 23 seconds on the clock and hit one-of-two at the line to take a 78-76 lead and set up Samet's heroics. He drove up the court and knocked down a pull-up 3-pointer with 16 seconds showing.
Farmingdale State missed their attempt on the other end before Yeshiva hit both free-throws with three seconds left. Out of a time out, FSC's inbound pass was intercepted, as the Maccabees went on for the 81-78 win.
Junior guard
Sean Conroy (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the Rams with 23 points, while classmate
Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) finished with 17. Senior guard
Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) played 38 minutes and recorded 14 points, six rebounds and two steals. Forwards
Hamdel Mohammed (Bronx, N.Y. - 10 rebounds) and
Kentrell Evans (Brooklyn, N.Y. - nine rebounds) added eight and six points, respectively
