Women's Basketball Earns Road Win at Mount Saint Mary

Farmingdale State - 64, Mount Saint Mary - 56

NEWBURGH, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's basketball team earned a Skyline Conference road victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Mount Saint Mary, 64-56. With the win, FSC improved to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Junior guard Mia Simmons (Queens, N.Y.) led the Rams with a game-high 16 points, while senior forward Alexandria Walbroehl (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) posted a double-double with 15 points and 21 rebounds.

Tied 13-13 early in the second quarter, the Rams tallied seven consecutive points to go up, 20-13. Sophomore guard Brianna Amenta (Oceanside, N.Y.) started the run with a fastbreak layup off a feed from classmate Emily Tsiforas (Manhasset Hills, N.Y.). Walbroehl followed with a jumper before a free-throw from Shyann Parker (Floral Park, N.Y.) and a Simmons basket gave Farmingdale State the seven-point advantage.

FSC held the Knights to just 21 points in the first half as they took a 27-21 lead into the break.

The Rams were still ahead by six, 29-23, and used a 12-2 run to open up their largest lead of the game, 41-25. Walbroehl and Tsiforas registered four points apiece in the run.

Mount Saint Mary (5-3, 4-1 Skyline) opened the fourth quarter with a 10-1 spurt to quickly cut their deficit to four, 45-41, but FSC responded with an Anayah Lloyd (Freeport, N.Y.) layup and a Simmons 3-pointer to regain an eight-point advantage, 54-46, with 4:30 to play.

After a Knights free-throw, back-to-back baskets by Simmons and junior forward Samyah Allen (Queens Village, N.Y.) put the Rams ahead by 11, 58-47, with 1:47 remaining.

FSC hit six free-throws down the stretch as they secured the 64-56 Skyline victory.

Simmons recorded a team-high 16 points and three steals, while Walbroehl added 15 points and 21 rebounds. Parker totaled eight rebounds, five points and three assists, and Tsiforas contributed six points, six rebounds and two blocks. Freshman forward Alana Henry (Amityville, N.Y.) scored five points with three rebounds, while Amenta finished with nine points off the bench.

The Rams will next travel to play Mount Saint Vincent in a Skyline game on Tuesday, December 9th at 6:00 p.m.
