Purchase - 66, Farmingdale State - 64
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Senior guard Shyann Parker (Floral Park, N.Y.) recorded a 25-point, 10-rebound double-double, but the Farmingdale State women's basketball team was edged by Purchase College, 66-64, in a Skyline Conference matchup on Wednesday evening. The game featured 12 ties and 12 lead changes as the Rams dropped to 2-4 on the season.
Trailing 58-55 with 2:40 remaining, Farmingdale State (1-3 Skyline) began its push when junior forward Samyah Allen (Queens Village, N.Y.) converted a driving layup to pull the Rams within one. After a defensive rebound on the next possession, Parker was fouled and hit one of two free throws to tie the game at 58-58 with 2:07 to play.
Purchase (4-3, 3-0 Skyline) responded with a 3-pointer on the following trip, but FSC answered as freshman forward Alana Henry (Amityville, N.Y.) made two free throws to cut the deficit to 61-60. Moments later, junior guard Anayah Lloyd (Freeport, N.Y.) forced back-to-back turnovers, leading to a putback by Alexandria Walbroehl (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) to give the Rams a 62-61 lead with 1:22 remaining.
After the Panthers tied the game at 62-62 at the line, Allen drove through the lane for a layup that put Farmingdale State back in front, 64-62, with 42 seconds left.
Purchase drew a foul with 17 seconds on the clock and converted both free throws to even the score again. Following a timeout, Allen's jumper with six seconds remaining was off the mark, and the Panthers secured the rebound and were fouled. Purchase hit both free throws with 2.8 seconds remaining to take a 66-64 lead. FSC's final attempt was a contested 3-pointer from Brianna Amenta (Oceanside, N.Y.) that was just off at the buzzer.
Along with her 25 points (career-high) and 10 rebounds, Parker tallied four steals and two assists. Allen and Walbroehl each finished with 10 points, while Henry added nine points and eight rebounds off the bench. Freshman center Allison Ntambwe (Queens Village, N.Y.) contributed four points and four rebounds in the loss.
The Panthers were led by Charlee Neb and Tianna Patten, who recorded 18 and 14 points, respectively.
Farmingdale State returns to action on Saturday, December 6th, when they travel to Mount Saint Mary College for a Skyline game at noon.
