Women's Basketball Rolls to Non-Conference Win at John Jay

NEW YORK, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's basketball team rolled to a 90-56 non-conference victory at John Jay College on Tuesday evening. Five Rams scored in double figures as they improved to 6-4 on the season.

FSC opened the game with five points from junior guard Mia Simmons (Queens, N.Y.) as she connected on two free-throws and a 3-pointer. After the Bloodhounds (2-10) responded with four unanswered points, Simmons knocked down another 3 to give Farmingdale State an early 8-4 advantage.

The Rams led 14-9 late in the first quarter and used back-to-back jumpers from forwards Samyah Allen (Queens Village, N.Y.) and Alexandria Walbroehl (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) to push their lead to nine.

Farmingdale State extended its advantage to as many as 14 in the second quarter and took a 37-27 lead into the halftime break.

FSC then put the game out of reach with a 35-point third quarter to take a 72-49 lead. They opened the third with 11 straight points, including four from Simmons and five by sophomore guard Emily Tsiforas (Manhasset Hills, N.Y.), to build a 21-point edge. The Rams led 60-39 before closing the quarter on a 12-4 run, featuring 3-pointer's from Tsiforas and sophomore guard Brianna Amenta (Oceanside, N.Y.).

Farmingdale State outscored John Jay 18-13 in the final 10 minutes as they secured the 90-56 non-conference victory.

Simmons and Tsiforas led the Rams with 18 points apiece, while Amenta added 14 points, five assists and four rebounds off the bench. Senior guard Shyann Parker (Floral Park, N.Y.) nearly had a triple-double with 13 points, 16 rebounds and eight assists and freshman forward Alana Henry (Amityville, N.Y.) produced 12 points and five rebounds in just 16 minutes of action. Walbroehl registered eight points, 11 rebounds and three blocks, while Allen chipped in with six points, six rebounds and four blocks.

As a team, the Rams shot 42.9% (36-for-84) from the field and 53.3% (8-for-15) from 3-point range, both season-bests.

Farmingdale State returns to action on Saturday, January 3rd, when they travel to Hunter College at noon.
