Women's Basketball Loses at Hunter

Hunter 79, Farmingdale State 61
NEW YORK | The Farmingdale State College women's basketball team kicked off the 2026 calendar year with a non-conference road game at Hunter College on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Hawks by the score of 79-61.

After Hunter (9-4) jumped out to a 7-2 lead to start play, the Rams (6-5) received consecutive layups from senior Alexandria Walbroehl (Mastic Beach, N.Y.), sophomore Emily Tsiforas (Manhasset Hills, N.Y.) and junior Samyah Allen (Queens Village, N.Y.) to push ahead by one point. The teams continued to stay neck-and-neck through the end of the first quarter, with Tsiforas's jumper at the 1:10 mark giving FSC a 17-15 lead after 10 minutes of play.

The second quarter saw the Hawks record the first six points, before four straight by Rams junior guard Mia Simmons (Queens, N.Y.) brought the score even at 21-21 with 7:01 left in the half. Hunter responded by scoring the next six points, and carried a 36-30 lead into halftime.

A pair of layups by Allen sandwiched a lay-in by Walbroehl in the first 1:46 of the second half, drawing Farmingdale State level at 36-all. The Hawks went ahead for good on a layup one minute later, and scored 10 of the last 13 points of the third quarter to pull away.

Simmons scored a season-high 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Rams, with senior point guard Shyann Allen (Floral Park, N.Y.) notching a double-double with a team-best 11 rebounds and a career-high 10 assists. Allen contributed 13 points and six boards, while Walbroehl and Tsiforas (two blocked shots) scored eight and six points, respectively.

Farmingdale State's Skyline Conference action begins with Tuesday night's 8 p.m. tip-off against Yeshiva University at NYU's Paulson Center.
