Women's Lacrosse Drops Home Opener to Western Connecticut

Western Connecticut 15, Farmingdale State 8
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's lacrosse team fell in its home opener Saturday afternoon by a 15-8 score to Western Connecticut State University.

The visiting Wolves (2-1) scored the first two goals of the game inside the four-minute mark, before FSC (0-3) freshman Carly Livingston (Farmingdale, N.Y.) got her team on the board off an assist from senior midfielder Megan Diamond (Dix Hills, N.Y.) with 8:20 left in the first period. Following another WestConn goal, Rams senior Ashley Codispoti (Patchogue, N.Y.) and Diamond scored at the 6:47 and 4:12 marks, respectively, to tie the game at 3-3.

Western Connecticut scored one more goal in the opening quarter to go ahead for good, and netted all four goals prior to halftime to take an 8-3 advantage into the locker room.

After the Wolves tallied 2:10 into the second half, Diamond scored her sixth goal of the young season at the 11:03 mark of the third to stop Farmingdale State's scoreless drought. Codispoti's second goal of the afternoon came with 2:20 left, before sophomore Emily Sohm (Seaford, N.Y.) fired home her first collegiate goal 29 seconds into the fourth period to bring FSC to within an 11-6 margin. Livingston's second tally of the day came 66 seconds later to cut Farmingdale State's deficit to four, before WestConn scored the next four goals to pull away.

Livingston completed her second collegiate hat trick before the final whistle to lead the Rams, while Diamond (2g, a) ended the afternoon with three points and a game-high-tying seven draw controls. Codispoti registered two goals and controlled five draws, with junior Sarah Fava (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and freshman Alyssa Farrell (Franklin Sq., N.Y.) picking up two caused turnovers apiece. FSC goalkeepers Giavanna Stamatelo (Levittown, N.Y.) and Ronnie Reilly (Oceanside, N.Y.) each played one half, with Reilly making six second-half saves.

Head coach Erin Calkins's Rams are next in action Wednesday night (March 6), when they travel to Mahwah, N.J., for a 5 p.m. start at Ramapo College of New Jersey.
