She joined the Farmingdale State women's lacrosse coaching staff as an assistant coach prior to the 2009 season, after a one-year stint as an assistant at Central Connecticut State University. Calkins enters the 2026 season with a career record of 131-83 (.612), and the three-time Skyline Conference Coach of the Year (2014, 2017, 2021) has directed the Rams to four Skyline championships and NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship appearances (2014, 2017, 2021, 2024).

As an assistant coach in 2009, Calkins helped guide the Rams to their first-ever Skyline Conference Championship, defeating Montclair State, 16-13, to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

In her first season as the head coach, Calkins led the team to the Skyline Conference title game. The Rams reached the Skyline Championship final in six of her first seven seasons, capturing the crown twice. In both 2014 and 2017, Calkins led the Rams to a program-best 18 wins and Skyline Conference Championship victories over St. Joseph's-LI. In the 2017 season, FSC captured a 16-14 victory in NCAA first-round play over Endicott. She mentored the Rams to a perfect 8-0 season in 2021 and a Skyline Conference Championship, before guiding the Rams to a conference title once again in 2024.

Calkins was a two sport student-athlete (basketball, lacrosse) at Eastern Connecticut State University. As a freshman, she was honored by IWCLA/US Lacrosse as a Second Team All-New England selection and was named Conference Rookie of the Year. Calkins led Eastern Connecticut to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2005, setting ECSU single-season records for games played, starts, minutes and saves. She also recorded the second-best win total and save percentage in school history.

Her junior year, Calkins was named the ECAC Goaltender of the Year while also earning All-Conference and All-New England honors. She was named All-Conference and ECAC All-New England honoree as a senior.

Calkins earned her Bachelor's degree in Sport and Leisure Management at Eastern Connecticut (2007) and a Master's Degree in Liberal Studies from Stony Brook University.
