STATEN ISLAND | The Farmingdale State College indoor track and field teams lifted the lid on their 2023-24 campaigns over the weekend at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, as the Rams took part in the Fastrack National Invitational.
On the men's side, sophomore
Nicholas Lourenco (Bay Shore, N.Y.) won the pole vault event, as he cleared 4.60m (15-1) on his third attempt at the height. The performance ranks fourth on FSC's all-time leaderboard (
list below).
Like Lourenco, fellow sophomore
Daniel Bamfo (Lake Grove, N.Y.) started his campaign with an Atlantic Regional Championship qualifying mark, placing fourth in the triple jump with a 13.88m (45-6.5) leap that was the tops among Division III competitors. Senior
Jahvirye Wilks (Farmingdale, N.Y.) was a finalist in the weight throw, as he placed fifth with a toss of 14.96m (49-1).
In women's competition, freshman
Ashley Toro (Bay Shore, N.Y.) advanced to the finals of the shot put, where she placed eighth with her mark of 10.72m (35-2). Senior sprinter
Alexxis McNeil (Valley Stream, N.Y.) took part in the invitiational 60-meter dash event, where she ran to a time of 8.118, while also clocking a 61-second leg on FSC's 4x400 relay team.
Head coach
Daniela Georgieva's Farmingdale State teams will next take part in the Dec. 8-9, in the Art Kadish Elm City Challenge at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven.
