Farmingdale, N.Y. - Today's softball doubleheader at Farmingdale State featured senior day for our five graduating seniors - Marissa Monaco (Bohemia, N.Y.), Taylor Webb (West Babylon, N.Y.), Sam Johrden (Deer Park, N.Y.), Taylor Tedeschi (Levittown, N.Y.) and Michelle Mongiello (Elmont, N.Y.). The Rams won game one 12-6, before shutting out the Panthers in game two, 7-0.
Game one featured a 13-run second inning, while Farmingdale State added five more runs in the third en route to the win. Old Westbury led off the second with a single by sophomore first baseman Nicole DeCola (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and combined for seven hits to take a 6-0 lead.
The Rams responded with seven runs in the bottom of the inning, off six hits and two errors. Sophomore first baseman Tori Tedeschi (Levittown, N.Y.) reached on an error, followed by two singles from sophomore shortstop Kerri Ossenfort (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and senior left fielder Sam Johrden. Junior catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) reached on an error, scoring Tedeschi from third to make it 6-1.
Sophomore third baseman Andrea Klarman (Medford, N.Y.) ripped a single up the middle to score Ossenfort and Johrden and make it 6-3. Another single thru the middle from Michelle Mongiello would score Anderson for a 6-4 score and a triple by Marissa Monaco would tie the game at 6-6. Sophomore second baseman Brittany Ciaramitaro (Levittown, N.Y.) knocked in the go-ahead run with a triple to right field, scoring Monaco and giving the Rams the 7-6 advantage.
Senior pitcher Taylor Tedeschi allowed just one hit the rest of the way, as her team tacked on five more runs for the 12-6 conference win. Tedeschi improved to 7-5 with the victory, striking out seven with four walks.
Monaco finished 3-for-4 (2 triples) with four RBI's and two runs scored. Klarman knocked in three runs and scored two off one hit.
In game two, Monaco led off the second inning with a walk, moved over to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a groundout. She came home to give Farmingdale State the 1-0 lead on another wild pitch.
In the fifth inning, Mongiello's RBI double to left field scored Klarman to make it 2-0. The Rams added five more in the sixth off five hits, including a two RBI triple by Mongiello and singles by sophomore shortstop Alison Dailey (Commack, N.Y.), Anderson, Klarman and Monaco.
Mongiello went 3-for-4 with three RBI's and one run scored, while Anderson finished 3-for-4 with a run and RBI.
