PURCHASE, N.Y. | The second-seeded Farmingdale State softball team saw its title run come to a close, falling 9-6 to top-seeded Manhattanville University in the final round of the 2026 Skyline Conference Championship on Sunday. The Rams finish the 2026 season with a record of 27-17, while the Valiants (35-8) have earned the Skyline's automatic qualification into next week's 2026 NCAA Division III Softball Championship.
FSC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring in each of the first two innings. In the first, junior catcher Madison Sturtz (East Islip, N.Y.) walked and later scored on a wild pitch. In the second, senior designated player Samantha Stolfi (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) delivered a sacrifice fly, scoring sophomore shortstop Natalie McMichael (Smithtown, N.Y.) to extend the lead.
Manhattanville answered in the bottom of the second, capitalizing on an error before Alexa Lazur launched a grand slam to right center field to highlight a five-run inning. The Valiants led 5-2 and tallied four more runs in the third, including a second home run from Lazur, to take a 9-2 advantage.
Farmingdale State continued to battle back in the fifth inning, plating four runs to cut the deficit to 9-6. Junior third baseman Bailey Hammock (Port Jervis, N.Y.) scored on a wild pitch, and junior outfielder Isabella Marchini (Hicksville, N.Y.) followed with a two-run double to right center, bringing home junior outfielder Ashley Toro (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and sophomore Nikole Galgano (Levittown, N.Y.). McMichael added an RBI single to center field that scored freshman Mea Metz (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) to cap the Rams' rally.Â
Farmingdale State was set down in order in the sixth and seventh innings as they fell, 9-6.
FSC finished with six hits, led by McMichael (2-for-3, RBI, run) and Marchini (1-for-3, 2 RBI). Hammock (1-for-3, run), Sturtz (run), and sophomore outfielder Alexandra Pole (Rocky Point, N.Y.) each added a hit in the loss.
