Thoden Sets School Record as Rams Edge New Paltz

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Junior midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) broke her own school record for draw controls as she recorded 19 in this afternoon's 22-19 non-conference victory over New Paltz State. The Rams improved to 13-1 on the season, while the Hawks fell to 4-4.

Trailing 17-15 with 12:10 remaining, junior midfielder Alyssa Handel (Medford, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal to pull Farmingdale State within one. Only 1:19 later, Thoden forced a turnover on the goalkeeper, picked up the ground ball and scored to tie the game at 17-17.

With 9:29 left to play, senior attack Talia Tesler (Rochester, N.Y.) put New Paltz back ahead by one as she scored off the pass from junior attack Kelsey Healy (Central Islip, N.Y.). After a Brittany Rosino (North Babylon, N.Y.) free position score for the Rams, Farmingdale State added back-to-back goals by Handel and junior midfielder Nicole Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y.) to lead 20-18 with 3:58 remaining.

Tesler cut the Hawks deficit to one with 3:04 left on the clock, before sophomore attack Kimberly Pepe (Levittown, N.Y.) scored the final two goals for the Rams to cap off the 22-19 victory.

Marzocca scored a career-high seven goals and added two assists, while Thoden had one goal, four assists and her school record 19 draw controls. Handel recorded five goals and Pepe finished the game with four scores. Rosino tallied four points on three goals and an assist and picked up a game-high five ground balls in the win.

The Hawks were led by Tesler who had a team-high six goals, while Healy and junior midfielder Lianne Valdivia (Kingston, N.Y.) each scored four goals and added one assist.

Farmingdale State next will host Old Westbury in a Skyline Conference game on Thursday, April 10th at 3:00 p.m.
