Stamatelo's 18 Saves Send Women's Lacrosse to Skyline Conference Title Over USMMA

2026 Skyline Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship - Final
(2) Farmingdale State 10, (1) U.S. Merchant Marine Academy 8
KINGS POINT, N.Y. | Junior goalkeeper Giavanna Stamatelo (Levittown. N.Y.) made 10 of her 18 saves in the second half on Saturday, and was named Most Outstanding Player of the 2026 Skyline Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship after lifting second-seeded Farmingdale State College to a 10-8 victory over top-seeded host U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

With the win, Farmingdale State (9-9) has earned automatic qualification into next week's 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship. The tournament field will be announced via an online selection show on ncaa.com at 10:30 a.m. on Monday.

This marks the second time in Stamatelo's career that she has received Most Outstanding Player honors, as she garnered the same kudos after backstopping the Rams to their most-recent of six titles as a rookie in 2024.

USMMA (11-4) scored the first two goals of the game, before FSC junior Carly Livingston (Farmingdale, N.Y.), who led all players with an eight-point afternoon on a hat trick and five assists, dented the net off a pass from senior Krystal Sulin (Nesconset, N.Y.) 1:15 before the first quarter ended.

The two teams traded goals to start the second quarter, including Sulin and Livingston reversing roles at 12:08, the Mariners went ahead 4-2 with 9:48 on the clock. From there, FSC scored the next three to carry a 5-4 advantage into halftime. Livingston and senior Molly Espey (West Hempstead, N.Y.) scored at 7:34 and 3:22, respectively, before senior Jordyn Neu (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) gave the visitors the lead with 1:10 to go before the break.

After USMMA tied the score in a player-advantage situation 29 seconds into the second half, Farmingdale State ripped off for consecutive goals to go ahead for good. Senior Kailee Coppola (Levittown, N.Y.) answered the Mariners' strike 1:16 later, before senior Emily Sohm (Seaford, N.Y.) and Sulin both scored within the first five minutes of the third quarter to put the Rams ahead, 8-5.

That score held until the 14:27 mark of the fourth quarter, when Coppola scored a player-up goal off a Livingston feed, before the Skyline Conference's Offensive Player of the Year rounded out her eight-point day with a goal at 6:02 to push the Farmingdale State lead to 10-7.

Coppola and Sulin both finished the day with two goals and an assist, while Espey (team-high four draw controls) and senior defender Shyann Parker (Floral Park, N.Y.) each caused two turnovers in front of Stamatelo's cage.
