JACKSONVILLE, NC | The Farmingdale State men's golf team opened competition at the 53rd Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate on Friday, carding a first-round score of 299 (+11) at the Paradise Point Gold Course.
The Rams sit tied for 11th place in a strong 24-team field after the opening round. 10th-ranked Oglethorpe University leads the tournament at even par (288), while Roanoke College, Drew University, and No. 33 McDaniel College are tied for second at +1 (289).
Junior Padruig Douglas (Northport, N.Y.) paced Farmingdale State with an even-par round of 72 and sits tied for 16th individually after 18 holes. He recorded birdies on holes 3, 7, 11 and 15.
Junior Luke O'Grady-Rodgers (Carmel, N.Y.) posted a round of 75 (+3) and is tied for 46th, while freshman Philip Connolly (Garden City, N.Y.), sophomore Rishi Talwar (East Farmingdale, N.Y.)Â and freshman Luke Grebinar (Leominster, Mass.) each carded rounds of 76 (+4) and are tied for 60th.
Individually, Dylan Zhang of Swarthmore and Daniel Donahue of John Carroll share the first-round lead after each fired a 67 (-5).
Farmingdale State will continue play in the three-round tournament on Saturday with the second round at Paradise Point Golf Course.
