Baseball Spring Break Update: Manzella Launches Home Run

BASEBALL SCHEDULE/RESULTS

DAVENPORT, FL | The Farmingdale State College baseball team continued its spring break trip on Monday morning, falling to Coe College, 14-7, before its second game against Rutgers-Camden was canceled due to thunderstorms in the third inning.

Game 1: Coe - 14, Farmingdale State - 7

FSC (1-5) totaled 14 hits but could not overcome an early deficit in the 14-7 loss to Coe College.

Coe (7-5) struck first with two runs in the top of the first inning, but Farmingdale State responded in the bottom half. Junior second baseman Ryan Wasserman (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) tallied a one-out single, and base hits from junior outfielder Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) and senior first baseman Dom LaFroscia (Sayville, N.Y.) loaded the bases. Sophomore outfielder Mike D'Angelo (Mineola, N.Y.) then delivered a two-run single to right center to tie the game, and senior catcher Ryan Plocker (Dix Hills, N.Y.) added an RBI single to give the Rams a 3-2 lead.

The Kohawks responded with three runs in the second inning and two more in the third to take a 7-3 advantage. Farmingdale State pulled a run back in the fourth inning when senior third baseman Jimmy Manzella (Baldwin, N.Y.) launched a solo home run to left center.

Over the final four innings, FSC plated runs on an error, a base hit by freshman designated hitter John Francisco (Smithtown, N.Y.) and a ground out from sophomore outfielder Ryan Tam (Wantagh, N.Y.) as they fell, 14-7.

Heyder led the Rams offensively with three hits, while LaFroscia, Plocker, Manzella and Francisco each recorded two hits. D'Angelo finished with two RBI's in the loss.

Game 2: Farmingdale State vs. Rutgers-Camden (Canceled)

Farmingdale State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning as Francisco led off with a walk and quickly stole second base. LaFroscia and Heyder followed with back-to-back ground-rule doubles before Heyder scored on a sacrifice fly later in the inning.

FSC added a run in the second after junior first baseman Vincent Deiosso (Glen Cove, N.Y.) led off with a single and scored on a ground out.

Senior TJ Cox (Mineola, N.Y.) tossed three shutout innings for Farmingdale State before thunderstorms forced the game to be called.

Farmingdale State will continue its spring break trip on Tuesday (March 17) when they take on Springfield College in a 9-inning game scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
