Lasell - 57, Farmingdale State - 48
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's basketball team dropped a 57-48 decision to Lasell University in non-conference action on Thursday evening. The game was knotted at 35-35 in the opening minute of the fourth quarter before the Lasers (11-2) pulled away.
The Rams (7-6) built a 10-6 lead late in the first quarter behind four points apiece from sophomore guards
Brianna Amenta (Oceanside, N.Y.) and
Emily Tsiforas (Manhasset Hills, N.Y.). Lasell responded with an 8-2 run to close the quarter as they led 14-12 heading into the second.
FSC opened the second quarter with a pair of baskets from senior forward
Alexandria Walbroehl (Mastic Beach, N.Y.), a 3-pointer by Tsiforas and two free-throws from junior guard
Samyah Allen (Queens Village, N.Y.) to jump ahead, 21-14.
Lasell cut their deficit to 25-24 before halftime and used a quick 6-0 run in the third to take a 30-25 advantage.
In the opening minute of the fourth, FSC junior guard
Mia Simmons (Queens, N.Y.) hit a pair of free-throws to put the Rams in front, 36-35, but an 8-0 spurt by the Lasers allowed them to regain the lead at 43-36.
FSC closed to within five, 53-48, with 29 seconds to play, but Lasell hit all four free-throws down the stretch as they secured the 57-48 non-conference win.
Allen led the Rams with 12 points, to go with four rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Amenta added 10 points and three steals off the bench, while both Tsiforas and Simmons contributed nine points and five rebounds apiece in the loss.
Lasers' senior guard Shirle Majors finished with a game-high 27 points and six steals in the victory.
Farmingdale State returns to action on Tuesday, January 13th, when the Rams travel to St. Joseph's-Long Island for a Skyline Conference matchup at 7:00 p.m.
