Farmingdale State 89, Mount Saint Mary 40
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Senior guard
Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) became the 10th Farmingdale State College men's basketball player to reach the 1,000 career points mark on Wednesday night, as his team-high 18 points powered the Rams to an 89-40 victory over Skyline Conference foe Mount Saint Mary College.
Notias reached the milestone at the 13:20 mark of the second half, when he took a pass from sophomore
Jordan Tucker (Elmont, N.Y.) and buried a 3-pointer from the right wing to put the Rams (15-3, 8-1 Skyline) up 55-28 over the Knights (2-16, 0-9). The senior was one of 13 FSC players to find the scoresheet, including eight student-athletes who scored at least six points on the night.Â
Fellow senior
Robbie Siechen (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored six of his career-high 17 points inside the first 2:34 of the game, as Farmingdale State jumped out to an 11-0 lead. Mount Saint Mary used a 9-2 run to close its margin to 15-12 with 6:06 left in the first half, before Tucker's jumper 30 seconds later stopped the visitors' spurt. The sophomore's bucket started a half-ending 18-6 spread for the hosts, which included six points from junior
Liam Buckley (Manhasset, N.Y.), as the Rams carried a 33-18 lead into the locker room at the break.
Farmingdale State came out on fire in the second half, outscoring the Knights 56-20 to cruise to the victory. Notias, who scored five points in the first half, hit all five of his shots out of the break to reach the 1,000 point milestone. Following a layup on MSMC's first possession of the frame, the Rams registered 11 of the next 14 points to take control for good. Notias's milestone-setting trifecta was the second in a run of three straight 3-pointers by FSC, with senior guard
Sean Conroy (Staten Island, N.Y.) starting the barrage at the 13:47 mark and Siechen canning a jumper on the left wing at 12:27.
Buckley finished the night with eight points and six rebounds, while five other players scored six points apiece: Tucker, junior
Kentrell Evans (Brooklyn, N.Y.), freshmen
Dylon Stanley (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and
Conor Griffin (Whitestone, N.Y.), and sophomore
Jacob Roman (Selden, N.Y.). The Rams owned a significant 62-30 rebounding edge, with Tucker hauling in eight boards while Conroy and Evans both added seven.
Farmingdale State returns to Skyline play Saturday, when it travels to Riverdale, N.Y., for a noontime start at the University of Mount Saint Vincent.
