Samantha Russo (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and
Sarah Kollarik (Levittown, N.Y.) combined for 31 kills on Thursday evening to lead the women's volleyball team to a 3-1 come-from-behind victory over visiting Western Connecticut State. The Rams improved to 3-1 on the season, while the Wolves fell to 0-2.
After dropping the opening set, 25-11, FSC responded in the second. Trailing 22-21, the Rams rattled off four straight points to even the match at one set apiece. Back-to-back WestConn errors gave Farmingdale State a 23-22 lead before Kollarik tallied a kill and senior middle
Lauren Offermann (North Babylon, N.Y.) secured the win with a block.
The third set saw WestConn ahead, 18-17, but FSCÂ recorded eight of the final 10 points, including four kills by Kollarik, to capture the set, 25-20.Â
The Rams were down again in the fourth, 21-17, but battled back with three straight points,
highlighted by a running save from Russo on the 20th point. Still trailing, 25-24, Farmingdale State delivered three consecutive kills from Russo, Kollarik and freshman middle
Alyssa Conzatti (Whitestone, N.Y.) to take the set, 27-25, and the match, 3-1.
Russo finished with a match-high 17 kills on a .264 hitting percentage, while Kollarik posted 14 kills, a .278 hitting percentage, one ace and one block. Offermann hit .583 with seven kills, four solo blocks and two block assists. Senior setter
Sarah Rende (Wantagh, N.Y.) produced 41 assists, 16 digs and two aces and Conzatti chipped in with four kills and three blocks in the victory.
Farmingdale State is back in action on Saturday, September 6th at the SUNY Delhi tri-match. The Rams face SUNY Canton at 1:00 p.m. before taking on the host Broncos at 3:00 p.m.
