Volleyball Falls in Four to Emmanuel

Emmanuel (Mass.) 3, Farmingdale State 1 (25-23, 25-7, 22-25, 25-18)
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's volleyball team fell in four sets Friday night to once-beaten Emmanuel College (Mass.), in a non-conference match played at Hofstra University.

The Rams (7-5) received 11.5 points apiece on offense from middle blockers Lauren Offermann (Sr.; North Babylon, N.Y.) and Alana Henry (Fr.; Amityville, N.Y.), who posted equal 10-kill, 1.5-block efforts against the Saints (12-1). Sophomore Mackenzie Marquardt (Centereach, N.Y.) added seven kills and a team-high two service aces, while senior setter Sarah Rende (Wantagh, N.Y.) dished out 34 assists to go with two kills and one ace. FSC's back-row defense was led by senior libero Delaney Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y.), who passed a match-best 13 digs and was perfect on 24 serve receptions.

Farmingdale State was down by as many as five points in the opening set, before ripping off a 7-1 run to go ahead by a 23-21 count behind three points from Marquardt (two kills, one ace) and back-to-back kills from Henry. From there, Emmanuel notched three-consecutive kills before a set-ending assisted block gave the visitors a 1-0 advantage in the match.

After a second-set triumph by the Saints, FSC pushed through a back-and-forth third set to cut its deficit in half. The Rams went ahead 20-19 after an Emmanuel attack error broke the 14th tie of the set, with Henry stretching FSC's edge to three points on a kill and solo block. Following a time out once the Saints closed the gap to 23-22, freshman outside Allison Marino (Merrimack, N.H.; five kills) floored a kill for Farmingdale State before an attack error by Emmanuel pulled the Rams to within a 2-1 score.

Farmingdale State is back in Skyline Conference action from the Walter A. Lynch Sports Center on Monday night (Sept. 29), when it plays host to St. Joseph's University-Long Island at 6.
