Volleyball Set Back by St. Joseph's-Long Island

St. Joseph's-Long Island 3, Farmingdale State 0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-23)
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's volleyball team played on its home court for the first time in 13 days on Monday night, as it fell to St. Joseph's University-Long Island in Skyline Conference action, 3-0.

Freshman middle blocker Alana Henry (Amityville, N.Y.) followed up her career-best 10-kill effort three days earlier versus Emmanuel (Mass.) with a match-high eight kills on 26 swings for the host Rams (7-6, 0-2 Skyline). Senior middle Lauren Offermann (North Babylon, N.Y.) tallied seven points on six kills and one solo block, while senior libero Delaney Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and sophomore outside hitter Samantha Russo (Bay Shore, N.Y.) tied for the match-high with 15 digs in the back row. Keegan and sophomore Samantha DiBiasi (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) both landed two aces from the service line against the Golden Eagles (7-2, 1-0).

St. Joseph's led by a 19-9 count in the first set, before the Rams fought off five-consecutive set points to close to within a 24-23 score – including three kills by Henry. The Golden Eagles then took a 1-0 lead in the match, as it floored a side-out kill to close out the frame.

The visitors doubled their advantage courtesy of a set-ending 16-2 run, before the teams traded the lead on multiple occasions in the opening part of the third set. After Offermann's final kill of the night tied the score at 17-all, St. Joseph's registered the next four points as part of a 6-1 spread to move in front, 23-18. Senior setter Sarah Rende (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Henry put down one kill apiece during a 5-1 run and, similar to the opening set, helped cut the hosts' deficit to 24-23. However, St. Joseph's locked up the straight-set triumph on an attack error in its Skyline opener.

Farmingdale State is back in Skyline action Thursday night (Oct. 2), when it travels to SUNY Old Westbury for a 6 p.m. first serve.
