PURCHASE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team opened Skyline Conference play on Tuesday evening with a 3-1 loss at three-time defending league champion Manhattanville University.

In a back-and-forth opening set, FSC (7-4, 0-1 Skyline) held set point at 24-23 after a service ace from senior setter Sarah Rende (Wantagh, N.Y.), but Manhattanville (6-4, 1-0) responded with the final three points to take the opener, 26-24.

The Rams answered in the second set, leading 22-20 and rattling off the final three points. Senior middle blocker Lauren Offermann (North Babylon, N.Y.) capped the run with a kill to seal the 25-20 victory and knot the match at one set apiece.

Manhattanville regained the advantage in the third set after a late 5-1 stretch closed out a 25-22 win. In the fourth, the Valiants controlled play throughout, earning a 25-20 victory to secure the 3-1 Skyline win.

Sophomore outside hitter Samantha Russo (Bay Shore, N.Y.) led the FSC attack with a team-high 11 kills to go with 14 digs and four service aces. Offermann tallied 10 kills and hit .269, while freshman Alana Henry (Amityville, N.Y.) and sophomore Caroline Lange (Shoreham, N.Y.) each added seven kills. Rende directed the offense with 34 assists, three kills, three service aces, and 15 digs. Defensively, senior libero Delaney Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y.) registered 14 digs.
