Farmingdale State 3, Pratt Institute 0 (26-24, 25-12, 25-20)
BROOKLYN | After securing an extra-time victory in the first set on Thursday evening, the Farmingdale State College volleyball team pushed to a 3-0 sweep in road non-conference play over Pratt Institute.
The Rams (7-3) were ahead by as much as an 18-10 score in the opening set, before the Cannoneers (0-5) rallied to move ahead, 24-23. FSC staved off set point when senior
Sarah Rende (Wantagh, N.Y.) leveled the score on a well-placed setter dump, before juniors
Sarah Kollarik (Levittown, N.Y.) and
Allison Salinas (Glen Cove, N.Y.) put the visitors up 1-0 in the match on a kill and service ace, respectively. For Salinas, the set-clinching ace was her third of the set, on her way to leading all players with five points from the service line on the night.
With momentum in Farmingdale State's favor, it raced out to a 13-5 lead in the second frame behind two kills apiece in that span from sophomore
Samantha Russo (Bay Shore, N.Y.), freshman
Emily Chiappetta (Farmingville, N.Y.) and Kollarik. The Rams never looked back, as they rounded out the set with a 7-2 spurt to double their advantage in the match.
Neither team led by more than four points in the final set, as kills from Russo (match-highs of 11 kills, 12 digs) and Kollarik (eight kills, nine digs) helped FSC extend its 22-20 edge to complete the sweep.
Chiappetta's five kills and match-best .571 hitting percentage were season-high marks, while freshman middle blocker
Alana Henry (Amityville, N.Y.) registered six kills on .267 hitting and one block assist. Rende dished out 26 assists in directing the Rams' offense, with senior libero
Delaney Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y.) passing 11 digs in the back row.
Farmingdale State kicks off its Skyline Conference slate Tuesday night (Sept. 23), when it travels to three-time defending champion Manhattanville University for a 6 p.m. first serve.
