FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's tennis team traveled to Western Connecticut State University on Wednesday afternoon and picked up a 7-0 shutout victory. The Rams improved to 2-3 overall, while the Wolves fell to 0-4.
After splitting the second and third doubles matches, FSC secured the point after the top-flight pairing of junior
Natalia Furchel (Manorville, N.Y.) and freshman
Kaelin Burnett (East Islip, N.Y.) tallied a 6-3 victory.
The Rams rolled through singles play, led by freshman
Martine McGowan (Port Washington, N.Y.), who recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the second position. Furchel followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 1 slot and seniors
Mikayla DeMaria (West Babylon, N.Y. - 6-1, 6-2) and
Heather McGullam (Hauppauge, N.Y. - 6-2, 6-0) put the Rams ahead 5-0 with victories in the fifth and sixth matches.
Burnett added a 6-4, 6-2 win in the third slot before senior
MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) closed out the sweep with a 7-5, 6-4 victory in the No. 4 position.
The Rams are next scheduled to play non-conference Hunter College at the USTA National Tennis Center on Saturday, September 20th at noon.
