NEW LONDON, Conn. | Freshman thrower
Victoria DeGraw (Kerhonkson, N.Y.) set the Farmingdale State women's outdoor track and field record in the discus on Saturday at the season-opening Coast Guard Invitational.
DeGraw, who posted a standout indoor season in the shot put and weight throw, recorded a toss of 34.88m (114' 5") to break Marina Magoulas' previous school record of 33.76m (110' 9") set in 2019. Her throw ranks 13th in the Metro Region and earned her third place out of 31 competitors.
DeGraw also competed in the shot put and placed fifth with a distance of 10.18m (33' 4.75"). Her toss places her eighth on FSC's all-time list.
Other notable performers on the women's side included senior
Alexxis McNeil (Valley Stream, N.Y.), who earned eighth in the 100m dash in 13.21 seconds, and senior
Olivia Finnegan (Massapequa, N.Y.), who recorded sixth in the high jump (1.46m - 4' 9.5") and moved into 10th all-time in program history. Finnegan also posted a strong showing in the 200m, placing 15th in 28.65 seconds, while freshman
Alice Valenzuela (Elmont, N.Y.) took 15th in the 400m in 65.68 seconds.
On the men's side, Farmingdale State sophomore thrower
Adonias Mercado (Hillsdale, N.Y.) recorded a career day, tallying a trio of top-10 marks in the FSC history books. He won the shot put with a regional-qualifying throw of 14.60m (47' 11") and moved into third in program history. Mercado also qualified for the All-Atlantic Region Championship with his second-place toss of 45.90m (150' 7")Â in the discus, placing sixth in Farmingdale State history. In addition, he took second in the hammer (behind only teammate
Jahvirye Wilks - 1st place - 46.44m) with his mark of 45.69m (149' 11"), moving into ninth on the all-time list.
Senior
Jovany Philippe (Huntington, N.Y.) also qualified for the regionals with a winning mark in the long jump, posting a personal-best 6.83m (22' 5").
Freshman
Jack Lengyel (Cheshire, Conn.) recorded the Rams' fourth victory of the day, winning the 3000m steeplechase in 10:45.30. Senior
Jonathan Engelhardt (Kings Park, N.Y.) finished second in the event in 11:30.52.
In the high jump, freshman
Aaron Matos (East Meadow, N.Y.) and junior
John Juste (Uniondale, N.Y.) tallied matching marks of 1.85m, earning eight points for FSC.
Junior
Daniel Bamfo (Lake Grove, N.Y.) placed third in the triple jump (12.86m - 42' 2.25"), while senior
Isaiah Mehnert (West Babylon, N.Y.) took fifth (12.00m - 39' 4.5").
Finally, Farmingdale State sprinters
Dontay Taylor (Saint Vincent and the Grenadines) and
Jeremiah Maynard (Roosevelt, N.Y.) led FSC in the 100m (5th place - 11.63 seconds) and 200m (7th place - 23.52 seconds) dashes, respectively.Â
The Farmingdale State men finished with 95 points, good for third out of 10 competing teams. UMass Dartmouth took the win with 147 points, while Eastern Connecticut State was second with 104.
The outdoor track and field teams will next travel to New Haven, Connecticut to compete in Southern Connecticut's Wilton Wright Invitational next Saturday (April 12).
