McGuggart Tallies Eight RBI's in Doubleheader Sweep Over Purchase

Game 1: Farmingdale State 11, Purchase 0
Game 2: Farmingdale State 10, Purchase 8
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Farmingdale State senior second baseman Chris McGuggart (Bethpage, N.Y.) tallied four RBI's in each game of a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Saturday to lead the Rams to a pair of wins over Purchase College. He recorded a bases-clearing triple in game one, before hitting a grand slam in the second game to help FSC to 11-0 and 10-8 victories. Farmingdale State improved to 14-8 overall and 7-1 in Skyline play with the wins.

Game 1

The Rams took control of the game early with five runs in the bottom of the first inning. After loading the bases with none out, McGuggart drew a walk before senior first baseman Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.) knocked in two with an RBI single through the right side on a hit-and-run. Junior catcher Ryan Plocker (Dix Hills, N.Y.) drove in FSC's fourth run on a sacrifice fly and junior center fielder Mike Kocovic (Mahopac, N.Y.) gave Farmingdale State a 5-0 lead on an RBI ground out.

FSC extended the lead in the fourth on McGuggart's three-run triple followed by a two-run home run by Lambert to take a commanding 10-0 advantage.

Farmingdale State added a run in the fifth on a Plocker single as they went on for the 11-0 victory.

On the mound, senior pitcher Johnny Dougherty (Kings Park, N.Y. - W, 2-1) earned the win, tossing five shutout innings, striking out five and allowing only three baserunners. Junior Michael Camardi (Syosset, N.Y.) pitched the final two innings and struck out five out of the six batters he faced.

Lambert matched McGuggart's total with two runs scored and four runs batted in, while junior right fielder Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) was a perfect 3-for-3 with a walk. Plocker recorded two hits and two RBI's and senior third baseman Tyler DiRocco (Commack, N.Y.) added two hits and two runs scored.

Game 2

In game two, Farmingdale State took a 2-0 lead in the first on a Lambert RBI single and Purchase (8-18-, 6-4 Skyline) throwing error.

The Panthers cut the deficit in half with a solo home run in the fifth, but FSC responded with a seven-run sixth inning to go ahead, 9-1. Lambert led the rally off with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kocovic. After a walk and a single, the Rams scored a run on a suicide squeeze attempt that resulted in a steal of home by sophomore Aiden Mehmel (Mastic Beach, N.Y.). FSC loaded the bases before another sacrifice fly gave them a 5-1 lead. Freshman shortstop Kaolis Delacruz (Levittown, N.Y.) batted next and drew a walk to set up McGuggart's grand slam over the left field foul pole as Farmingdale State took the eight-run advantage.

The Rams led by six heading into ninth inning and held on for the 10-8 Skyline Conference victory.

Lambert finished with two hits, a triple, one run scored and one RBI, while Heyder registered three more hits in game two with one run batted in. Delacruz had a hit, two walks and two runs scored in the win.

Senior pitcher Roman Dorosh (Holbrook, N.Y. - W, 2-1) earned the victory on the mound, throwing five innings of one-run ball.

Tomorrow's scheduled doubleheader at Manhattanville has been postponed; a makeup date is still to be determined. The Rams will next play host to Lehman College for a non-conference game on Wednesday (April 16) at 3:00 p.m.
