Livingston, Stamatelo Lead FSC Past St. Joseph's-Long Island

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's lacrosse team rolled to a 16-4 Skyline Conference victory over visiting St. Joseph's-Long Island on Saturday afternoon. The Rams received eight points from sophomore attacker Carly Livingston (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and 12 saves in the cage by junior goalie Giavanna Stamatelo (Levittown, N.Y.) as they earned the win to improve to 3-5 overall and 2-0 in conference action.

The Golden Eagles (0-3, 0-1 Skyline) scored the opening goal of the game before FSC rattled off three consecutive scores to close the first quarter. Livingston set up both junior attackers Emily Sohm (Seaford, N.Y.) and Jordyn Neu (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) for goals before freshman midfielder Alexis Chew (East Meadow, N.Y.) notched her first collegiate goal to put FSC in front, 3-1.

The Rams led 3-2 and used five consecutive scores to take an 8-2 lead. Sohm assisted on a pair of scores by Livingston, while midfielders Jules Loughran (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Olivia Cassese (Farmingdale, N.Y. - 2x) produced unassisted goals.

St. Joseph's-Long Island pulled two back, scoring at the end of the second and beginning of the third, but Farmingdale State responded with the game's final eight goals. Livingston and Loughran tallied back-to-back goals with six minutes to play in the third before junior midfielder Kailee Coppola (Levittown, N.Y.) tallied a woman-up, free-position score.

The Rams followed with a three-goal spurt, including woman-down goals by Sohm and Livingston, to go up 14-4. They added two more goals down the stretch as they cruised to the 16-4 Skyline victory.

Livingston ended with four goals and four assists and has now totaled 15 points in the last two games. Sohm contributed six points on three goals and three assists, while Loughran filled the stat sheet with four goals, one assist, three ground balls, two caused turnovers and four draw control. Cassese contributed two goals, three draw control and one caused turnover and Coppola finished with a goal, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Senior Sarah Fava (Lynbrook, N.Y.) led the defense with a game-high six ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Stamatelo stopped 12-of-16 shots in net for FSC for a .750 save percentage in the win.

The women's lacrosse team will next play host to non-conference opponent No. 14 ranked TCNJ on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
